April

Thursday, April 10 from 10am to 1pm

Collections Building & Digitizing Day

Bring 1-10 photographs, 8” x 10” or smaller. The Museum will make a digital copy on the spot. You will get your hard copy back and a digital copy to take home. Digital copies will become part of the Museum's collection of photographs. Family parties, parades, days at the beach, businesses, or school days are great places to start.

The Last Days in Vietnam

Talk by Bihn Pham

at the Carpinteria Veteran's Memorial Building

April 30th marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. Bihn Pham, a Vietnamese national who spent several years in a re-education camp after the fall of Saigon, will talk about his experiences. Carpinteria local and president of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 218, Peter Bie, will lead the talkback with attendees about the last days in Vietnam.

The Vietnam War: Personal Recollections 50 Years On

Talk facilitated by Peter Bie

This talk will reflect on the legacy of the Vietnam War and include personal remembrances of the war period.

Peter Bie will lead a panel discussion with Vietnam Veterans.

Why Do We Need to Protect the Native Habitats of Carpinteria?

Talk by Dale Olivas

Carpinteria has a unique climate, natural plant and animal habitats, and a history of individuals dedicated to preserving natural resources. Olivas’s talk will include a wide-ranging discussion of plants, animals, groves, nesting, and the importance of Carpinteria habitat protection.

Avocado Land: The History of California's Avocado Industry

Talk by Rob Crisell

Crisell, author of California Avocados: A Delicious History, will discuss how avocados made their way to America and then to various California counties, how avocados won the "war on fat" in food, why Haas avocados are so popular, and the most important avocado recipes in history.
